However I had a PC on the far end of the house. I dreaded the idea of opening up the box to install a card. Its not something I like to do. A friend reocmmended the Linksys WUSB54G Wireless Adapter. It works great! No opening the box. No fussing with screws. Just follow the instructions on the CD and plug the device into a USB port. This will make it very convenient if I need to use it on another computer that doesn't have a wireless card. ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2008-12-31 Summary: Still works great after 6 years. ... I've had this adapter for about 6 years now, and it's never given me any problems. I've used it on 2 different desktop computers, and with 8 different wireless routers, in houses and apartments both. The routers were of all different brands, but only 1 of them was a Linksys as well. It's easy to install, and doesn't seem to drop the connection (unless of course it's the router that's having a problem!) The only issue I've ever had with it? B1) because I wanted to upgrade my Dell 1520 Notebook (Vista Ultimate 32 bit) from Wireless G to Wireless N. Installation was simple and only took a few minutes. I discarded the CD and loaded the most recent firmware from D-Links site. I then was prompted to insert the adapter into a USB port. After a couple of minutes, I was prompted to enter my SSID and Password. Bingo. Now I get a consistent 270 Mbps, with a good signal.
